video In this video, Australian Greens Senator Scott Ludlam asks Communications Minister Stephen Conroy to justify his comments that Sweden, the UK, Canada and New Zealand have mandatory internet filtering systems similar to the one proposed for Australia.
"Can the minister explain why he made this statement, in light of the fact that in not one of those countries is the filtering system mandatory, and the filtering systems in those countries are entirely voluntary, if they exist at all?" asked Ludlam.
In his response, Conroy pointed out the filtering scheme was only one facet of the Government's cyber-safety plan.
"I can assure the senator that the Government will implement the ISP-filtering component of this policy in a considered and consultative way," the minister adds.
The video appears to have been filmed by the Parliament of Australia and uploaded to YouTube this week.

I was never consulted. If I had ANY idea this was part of the Rudd government plan of action, I would have voted for my much hated leader mr. Howard. How dare someone take away my civil liberties and my right to decide what I can and cant look at ? This is worse than the barely noticed refferendum giving parliment the ability to override or block the High Court. Take about a police state. There is no way the Howard Gov will survive another election. This is the break. Remember all the young votors ? Well you just fried us !

Moral and civil issues aside, this type of idea just does not make sense on a technical level, Why not go for âwhite listâ ISPs for schools and other special needs? Trying to filter everybodyâs connection is just plain dumb and will cost this country billions we donât have, please donât waste Australiaâs time and money on this.

To follow this logic to its extreme end, over 90% of violent crime is commited by the male of the species. So next we expect all men to be imprisoned?
