in brief Red Hat has delayed its Linux desktop distribution, Global Desktop, until September.

According to a Reuters report, Red Hat product manager Gerry Riveros wrote in an e-mail that the operating system is being delayed so the Linux vendor can investigate adding additional support for video formats.

The OS, designed for use on personal computers, is targeted at Linux first-timers, as well as government agencies and small businesses, particularly those in developing countries.

Announced in May, Red Hat Global Desktop was originally expected to launch in August.
