At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, search head Qi Lu and senior vice president Yusuf Mehdi announced that Microsoft is teaming up with Facebook and Twitter to integrate real-time search results from the two social networks into its Bing search engine.

Bing will return information that is publicly available on Twitter and Facebook. The Twitter implementation is already available as a beta at Bing.com/twitter, while the Facebook search feature is yet to arrive.

"You have to do more visual things, you have to do more sophisticated things, and you have to have better access to data," Mehdi said.

In addition to being able to view search results the same as on Twitter's search engine, Medhi says you'll be able to take advantage of Bing's own search techniques to improve the quality of your results.
