Software professionals in Australia have coded together a blitz Web-based charity campaign to raise money for the Fred Hollows Foundation -- donations are now open.

The campaign, dubbed the "Million Eyes of Sight", allows visitors of the Web site to purchase a pixel AU$2 each. As more people buy pixels the image will become clearer. The group hopes to raise over half a million dollars.

The Fred Hollows Foundation is a non-profit, community-based, non-government development aid organisation. It has been estimated that more than one million people in the world can see today because of initiatives instigated by Hollows.

As a sweetener donations of over AU$25 will go into a draw to win one of four copies of Adobe Photoshop. For Australian citizens, all donations will be tax deductible.

Do gooders will have to be quick, the campaign ends 12 Noon on Friday April 11.

Mark Blair, technical director at Adobe Pacific, pulled together the technical side of the project and was helped with other software professionals in the industry who collectively call themselves "Million Eyes of Sight". Blair built the back-end capabilities using Adobe's Coldfusion. But that's enough about the nerdy-side of the story, pull out your PayPal account details and point your browsers to http://www.millioneyesofsight.com.

They're not the only one ;-) Another Adobe team, visionAIR @ www.visionair.info are also raising money for the cause. Source code will be provided for the AIR application used to track donation totals.

Hi there,
I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a very close friend whom I am concerned about. She is nearly blind. I believe she has catarac ts,is a Maori lady aged 45. She has an eight year old son, Unfortuneately, mother is very poor and I know for a fact that that she cannot afford the operation. and is now on the waiting list of the public hospital system. Is there anyway that the Fred Hollows foundation can help her. Or can someone point me in the right direction.

Thank you for your help
